Saint Petersburg is known for being a pet friendly and dog loving community. Many restaurants throughout the City have options for people to eat with their dog outside and offer water bowls or treats. Here are a few places to visit and take your dog on special journey:
1. Walk on Central Avenue.

Many restaurants on Central have outdoor seating for patrons to come visit and enjoy their time in St. Petersburg without leaving their pet at home. Even if you don’t stay at a restaurant, Central Avenue is an easy walk with many different types of pet friendly stores and many stores have water bowls out for dogs to quench their thirst on the walk up and down Central.
2. Run on Pinellas Trail.
Just a block and a half off of Central is the Pinellas Trail. It is a great path to take your dog on a run and get their energy out. Generally, the Pinellas Trail is not directly adjacent to a major road so it allows for a safer run than the traditional sidewalk.
3. Fort De Soto Dog Beach.

Fort De Soto is a park located approximately 20 – 30 minutes from downtown St. Petersburg. While home to other activities such as kayaking, camping, and fishing, Fort De Soto is the closest beach were dogs can be off leash and enjoy the salt water and roll around in the sand. Don’t worry, there is also a traditional dog park area for large and small dogs which includes a hose to wash all of the sand off your dog before traveling back to your home.
4. Dog Bar.

If your dog is not one for the sand and salt water of Fort De Soto, Dog Bar, located off of Central, allows a place for both dogs and owners to have fun. Dogs can run around, play with other dogs, and also includes a water area for the dogs to have fun. While your pet runs around and makes new friends, you get to do the same and indulge in different beers and drinks if you choose. Your dog must be registered and have certain vaccines so be sure to visit their website before visiting.
5. Visit a Brewery.
Nearly all of the breweries in St. Petersburg are dog friendly. Pinellas Ale Works (PAW) is even dog inspired and has beers include Off the Leash, Fetch, Stay, and Nitro Milk Bone. Green Bench Brewery has a big outdoor space with turf where dogs are often found enjoying the outdoors while their parents enjoy a beer. Breweries generally require dogs to remain on leash.
6. Dog Parks.

There are several city parks throughout St. Petersburg which have dog parks for your dog to run around unleashed, meet new friends, or enjoy a game of fetch. The two closest to downtown are North Shore, which is close to the Vinoy and roughly a block from the bay where you can take your dog on an additional walk, and Crescent Lake, which has many tennis balls from the nearby tennis court, has pickleball courts, and also a lake with a sidewalk for additional walks if desired.
